Top Models of 2010

I found myself changing every now and then my list of favourite models. I love the modelling industry, I'm a total Team Models-on-covers-and-campaigns (lame name, but true), and I realize that slowly models are making a comeback. For the first time in a while we can point out supermodels and top models in the making. Without a doubt this was the year of the newcomers, the new wave of models took the scene by storm. I decided to dedicate a post to models, who, in my world, are like celebrities. Here are my top 10 models of the year.

Natasha Poly. In my opinion, and I think not many people can disagree, Natasha is the supermodel of our generation. Clearly she doesn't have the fame of Claudia Schiffer, but in today's world, where models aren't known by everyone, Natasha has made a name for herself and a career most models would want to. She has done everything that's out there: high fashion, commercial, covers and campaigns. In 2010 she appeared in more international Vogue covers than any other model, I would say that the only thing Natasha is missing is a beauty contract. L'Oreal what are you waiting for?

Constance Jablonski. Last year it was Sigrid Agren who took the title of french model of the year, bt in 2010 Constance Jablonski took it away from her. This french stunner made her way through the business, slowly heading to the top. I can assure Constance will be the next Laetitia Casta, she has conquered the high fashion world but this year made her debut in the commercial modelling. She walked for the first time the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and her gorgeous face is now featured on ads for Estee Lauder.

Frida Gustavsson. The stunning sweddish teenager popped out last year and immediately became a sensation among designers, editors and casting directors. Her beautiful face works every single look a designer puts on her, but her unique personality and sense of style won us over. She's fashion it girl, for sure. Frida is a great model and a fashion icon for many of us.

Ginta Lapina. I've been a fan of Ginta for so long, and witnessing her recent success is amazing. This girl deserves every single job she gets, as her face works for Victoria's Secret as well as for Chanel. She's one of Donatella Versace's favourites, and there's a rumour out there that after opening Versace's spring 2011 show she also got the campaign. It was recently confirmed that Ginta will appear in Marc by Marc Jacobs ads, after walking a huge number of big shows. Ginta was chosen by Fashion TV one of the first faces of the season, as she opened Rue du Mail and closed Nina Ricci among others.

I said this was the year of the newcomers, there's no doubt about it. Here are a group of models that make some established models not worth hireing.

Daphne Groeneveld. There's no doubt about it, this dutch teen was the star of the year. I'm really certain that Daphne is the next supermodel. She has a unique beauty but still is absolutely stunning. With a Miu Miu campaign already in her resumé, Daphne will appear in Givenchy's spring 2011 ad. If you are still doubting about her, let me add that Daphne already got a Vogue Paris cover.

Caroline Brasch Nielsen. Fierce is the only way to describe this girl's face. Caroline's strong features and unique beauty has landed her a spot in some of the best shows of fashion week, having started with a Balenciaga exclusive last fall. Caroline has been featured in editorials for italian and british Vogue and was also the face of Balenciaga.

Arizona Muse. What a comeback for Arizona! She started modelling a couple of years ago, and in 2010, with a baby and her hair shorter, Arizona got back to the catwalks and was a hit. Miuccia Prada loved her so much that not only let her open Miu Miu but also featured her on Prada's spring campaign. Style.com chose her as the season's top newcomer and Vogue said we all should keep an eye on her as she'll be the next supermodel.

Lindsey Wixson. I have to admit that it was hard for me to like this girl. You either love or hate her unique face, and Miuccia Prada certainly loved it. She featured Lindsey in two ad capaigns for Miu Miu, and then followed by contracts with Jill Stuart beauty and a Versace fragance ad. To add to her resume Lindsey has walked for Marc Jacobs, Chanel and Stella McCartney, and also covered british magazine     i-D.

Barbara Palvin. This 17 year old hungarian was a star even before landing a foot on the runway. Wisely managed by IMG, Barbara debuted in fall 2010 fashion week, and walked for Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and exclusively for Prada in Milan. She has already covered two issues of L'Officiel and appeared in editorials for British and French Vogue. Victoria's Secret has also put an eye on her featuring Barbara in PINK ads and it won't be long before a major beauty contract comes.

Hailey Clauson. I've been following Hailey's career ever since she modelled for Forever 21 a year ago. Now she's a campaign girl for Gucci and DSquared, having succesfully finished her first fashin week in spring 2011. Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Versace were some of the shows she was in. Steven Meisel and Terry Richardson are some of the photographers Hailey has already worked with, having appeared in editorials for Vogue Italia and Love Magazine.

Let me clarify that this is just my personal opinion, of course there are several other models that had a great year and are worth mentioning: Liu Wen (hired by Estee Lauder and walked for Victoria's Secret), Freja Beha Erichsen (with numerous covers for Vogue Italia and Vogue Paris, as well as a sixth Chanel campaign), Iselin Steiro (a huge comeback with amazing covers, campaigns and numerous runway shows), Samantha Gradoville (from opening Prada to editorials in Numero and walking a huge number of shows) and Lara Stone (MDC said this was the year of the dutch model).
I want to know which are your favourite models and which newcomer do you think will be the next big star?
