Like a Painting

Prada Spring 2008

I'm a sucker for art history. Actually, I'm a sucker for art. I love every kind of artistic manifestation, from a painting to the most abstract thing, I tend to see art in almost everything. FASHION IS ART, despite what many may think. And I have realize that now more than ever designers are being inspired by paintings, mainly for prints. The result is simply as gorgeous as the painting it self.

Short, thick strokes of paint are used to quickly capture the essence of the subject, rather than its details. Colours are applied side-by-side with as little mixing as possible, creating a vibrant surface...
Flower prints are coming stronger than ever for this summer. I get a total Monet/Impressionism feeling from most of this designs.

I agree with you 150%! Fashion IS art. I see art all around me as well, especially in nature. I love the designers you have showcased... I tend to prefer the ethereal, floaty dresses over the crazy hypnotic ones. I enjoy the crazy hypnotic ones a la Alexander McQueen though as well, but I think the feminine style is more 'my thing'.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments! I agree it's so hard in my city to find people to talk fashion with! This is why I love blogging so much!!!!
And Augusta... DO IT!!! Post some outfits pics. I'd love to see some of your personal favourite outfits.
Personally, I need to stop posting SO MANY outfit posts! Once I started I simply cannot stop haha.

Great post! I want more Rue Cambon! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog - yours is wonderful! I totally agree that fashion is art, just because it has a functional element that does not negate the fact that is a pretty primal form of self-expression. These images are gorgeous - the colors are so vivid and lush!

Love this post and I completely agree with you; fashion is a form of art - and completely inspired by other artists, esp. Monet :)

I'm in love with the Miuccia collections shown there... I'm really blown away by the way the drawings are introduced into another entity and perfectly integrated... both were some of my favorite collections from her !
Beautiful post
